VIDEO: How to Use a Costume Management Book to Track and Size Recital Costumes Efficiently

Printer-Friendly Format

Your costume management book should be well organized and hold everything about eaach class' costume. The book should list each class at your studio with a picture of each costume and the name of each student. It should also include who is in the recital and ordered a costume as well as all notes on sizing, head pieces, hats, hair and tight color.

Measuring Should be Exact and Kept Track of

You should measure each child in late fall/December. Doing it nice and early gets things moving on schedule. Keep sizing charts for each manufacturer and account for growth in the children.

Keep Notes

Always take specific notes on how the hair, hatpiece and/or hat will be worn. Also note the tight color and exchanges that need to be made.

Sizing is VERY Important

Make sure to size the costumes carefully. Check the waist, length and overall fit. Make notes on who needs alterations and if you choose no bare legs or midrifts. Make sure to take quick action on any exchanges and returns.
