One of the struggles with owning a dance studio is falling into the 'feast or famine' cycle with your marketing. We have our busy times and our not so busy times.

Certain times during the year, you find yourself overwhelmed with planning, preparation, scheduling, classes, events, and meetings that you can't find time for the little things that add up and really make a difference!

During the slow times, you often try and do everything from overhauling a website, redesigning brochures, and spend money haphazardly on advertising that may not produce the results you were counting on.

Just like we educate our dancers to stick with their training over time to see results, your dance studio marketing efforts require a regular, consistent approach. Doing this will help you smooth out those ups and downs and soon you'll find yourself one step ahead and bringing new students in on a more regular basis. The key?... Little by little does the trick.

Here are three marketing activities you should do every month that will maximize your marketing efforts. Try your best to stick with them throughout the year and then look back on your successes!

  1. Update your schedule and calendar on your dance studio website consistently. Be sure to post any updates on social media as well.

Today, most everyone reaches for their phone to get the latest news. They surf the web, jump on Facebook or Instagram and are immediately given loads of information on topics they are interested in. Therefore, you need to make sure your website and social platforms are as up to date as possible. Whether it be a master class announcement, a studio closure notice or a payment deadline, it should be online. This way, you cover your bases and when parents say "I never got that email!" ...because you know they will! Finally, more posts and updates increases your social presence and gives you a better chance of being seem by new potential clients. Who knows what might catch someone's attention!

  2. Make it easy for people to do business with you, every day and in every way.

Ask yourself... is it easy for people to do business with us? Is our information presented in an organized and straight-forward manner? People are busy; they want and need information quickly. Right now, registration is top on the list.

Make sure that your online registration is working properly and is easy to use. People will give up if there are several steps involved or if they are having trouble using the system. Then, they will end up calling or emailing the studio creating more work for you or your office manager. Always make an effort to streamline the workflow which will ultimately save you and your clients time and money! Always try to find the simplest solution.

  3. Follow up on inquiries in a timely and friendly manner, it has a ripple effect!

Following up on inquiries is different than adding someone to your newsletter or mailing a brochure. It's the next step in making a positive impression after an initial contact with a potential student. Not everyone who calls or emails will be the right fit for your studio, but in that moment of follow up you have a chance to answer any questions and provide them with the customer service to help them make the best decision either way. If you take 15 minutes a week on proactive, helpful follow up you could potentially reach one new student who either registers with you or tells a friend what great customer service you offered causing them to contact you. This adds up over time!

You control your output and actions. Make an effort to stay consistent and you will see the positive results over time. Day by day, "little by little does the trick".

I cannot tell you enough how good it feels to connect with someone who's willing to look at the truth of the situation with humor and cautious optimism... I definitely needed a lot of that advice, but more important, I needed to hear it from two badass, empowered women.
